Nothing will motivate a man to move forward faster than knowing what's behind Him.


1. In 1878,   The ship Azor left Charleston, SC with 206 Black emigrants bound for Liberia.

2. In 1892,  Black Longshoremen went on strike for higher wages in St. Louis, Missouri.

3. In 1898,  Volunteer African American army units, including the 3rd Alabama, 3rd North Carolina, 6th Virginia, 9th Ohio, 9th Illinois, 23rd Kansas and 10th Cavalry regiments, some units with African American officers, took part in the Spanish-American War on Cuban soil. Some of these veterans, upon return to the United States,  were treated with parades and speeches. Others were assaulted and even lynched.

Milton Olive, Jr.

4. In 1966,  Milton Olive, Jr., becomes the first African American to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. The award is given posthumously after Olive dove on a live grenade, saving the lives of his fellow soldiers.

5. In 1974,  Lee Elder becomes the first African American professional golfer to qualify for the Masters Tournament.

Michael Jordan

6. In 1986,  Jordan scores 63 points against Boston Celtics.

7. In 1997,  Kenya’s Lamuck Aguta wins the 101st Boston Marathon

8. In 2009,  President Obama signed the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act.
