1. In 1867, Black demonstrators staged ride-ins on Richmond, Va., streetcars. Troops were mobilized to restore order.

2. In 1884,  National Medical Association of Black Physicians organized in Atlanta, Ga.

3. In 1884,  The Medico-Chirurgical Society of Washington D.C. was founded. It was the first African American medical society.

4. In 1886,  Augustus Tolton ordained a Roman Catholic priest in Rome, was assigned to America.

5. In 1944,  The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) was incorporated with 27 member colleges. UNCF is the nation’s oldest and most successful minority higher education assistance organization.

6. In 1944,  Smith v.. Allwright, the Supreme Court rules that a “white primary” law that excludes African Americans from voting is a violation of the 15th Amendment and thus unconstitutional.

7. In 1972,   James M. Rodger, Jr. first African American to be named National Teacher of the Year is honored at a White House ceremony.

8. In 1972,  Robert Wedgeworth is named the first African American Director of the American Library Association.

9. In 2006,  T.I.’s King Tops Jet Magagazine’s top 20 album list.
